Your Life on Earth
Reflection
Project Description
The my life on earth project was a project in which we were asked to find exactly what our philosophy was. I decided to go a step further and look at where I think my philosophy came from and how it has changed over my lifetime. The inspiration behind this outlook was I really wanted to see how much of an impact my peers had on my personal philosophy. The perspective that I have developed throughout this project is that my family is the main factor to my personal philosophy.
New Insights
The project that I decided on is going to find a book of something that I am interested in. (the book that i used is called “20 Years Before the Mast”) This book is about a sailor that travels around the world with his crew. But what I decided to eventually do with the book was to make block poetry out of the pages to describe my life and the philosophy that came with it. So with every chapter came a new year of my life.
The new insight that I gather from this project was that everyone has a different perspective on life and in turn that changes their philosophy in different ways. The most interesting thing about this thought process is that everyone in the whole universe has a different philosophy on life. This has influenced my thinking in what my philosophy is because it is personal to me.
Further Questions and Intellectual Work Left to Do
Throughout this project I want to keep adding poems to my book after this year and see how much my philosophy has changed when I go off to college. One thing that I have thought about this project is that every little thing that happens in my life has changed a small part of my personal philosophy. A question that I still ask myself is where the main part of my philosophy came from and if that will change when I move out?
Some other questions that I will be asking myself to answer in the artist statement are:
Why do you think your philosophy has changed
Where did it start?
Where is it now?
And how do you think that it will change moving forward?
How will my philosophy of life change as more time goes by?
If I was in a different family setting would it still have as much of an impact?

Artist Statement
The art piece that I made in a book that has a resignation to something that I am interested in. The specific idea that I had in mind is the ocean. This is because ever since I have been born I was alway drawn to the sea. One of the ideas that I had was to make an art piece in an old book so I decided to go to a thrift store and look there. Luckily I found a book that fit this description perfectly. The book is called “20 Years Before the Mast'” it is about a sailor that sails around the world looking for new and interesting things with his crew. What I decided to do with this book was to make block poetry that depict my life and the philosophy that has come with it. I also decided with every new chapter it will be poems about that year that I have lived and how my personal philosophy changed over time. The poems that I made in this book had many factors going into them. Including… Why do you think your philosophy has changed? Where did my philosophy start? Where is my philosophy now? And how do I think it will change moving forward? When looking at all of these questions I was able to make meaningful poems that depict important times in my life. The poems that I have created are about how my personal ideology and philosophy has changed from the peers and the experiences I have met. The one thing that I wanted to emphasize the most was that my family has helped my philosophy start and change over time. Not only my philosophy grew with the ideals of my family. I believe that my outlook on life has changed thanks to my family. |
Into the Wild Intertextual Analysis Essay
Rhetoric and Ideology Project
In this project we were asked to find a topic we were passionate about and make rhetorical pieces that reflect our project and opinions. One of the challenges was for us to review the perspective of the other side of the argument to make it more meaningful. My project was about Pebble Mine and my opinion is that I do not want this mine to happen because I feel that it will have a significant impact on the largest salmon run in the world - decreasing a food source that is important for the world.
(I have not finished my art yet to my liking) it will be done by the end of break. But the piece that I have made so far will be on here by Dec 14
Reflection
- What have you discovered about your own emerging ideology as a young American?
- What do you understand about the ideology of others that you didn’t before?
- What have you learned about rhetoric, ideology, and the “democratic experiment”?
- What role could Rogerian rhetoric and/or a “willingness to be disturbed” play in a democratic society?
